The Leids Kamerkoor is a group of around 25 enthusiastic singers for whom singing quality and pleasure go hand in hand.

Dody Soetanto has been artistic director of the Leids Kamerkoor (LKK) since 2016.

The choir draws inspiration from a broad repertoire, from the Middle Ages to modern music.  We often sing a capella, but also sing accompanied by professional chamber musicians and occasionally larger works with orchestra. We have a preference for thematic programmes: to give a few examples, Scandinavian music, Renaissance music, South American dance music, Klezmer and music from the Balkans.

We consider our strong points to be the musical development we have achieved and continue to focus on, our series of beautiful and special concerts, a fine atmosphere and the strong commitment of our members. We also find time to relax together.

We regularly participate in major cultural events in Leiden, such as the Leids Amateurkunst Festival, the Hofjes concerts and Leiden heritage Open Monument days.  This has very much been the case in 2015 !  In addition, in February 2015 we performed 5 renaissance works in the Leiden Stadsgehoorzal as the supporting programme for the Nederlands Kamerkoor.  In the first week of June 2015 we took part in the Tampere Vocal Music Festival in Finland, and were pleased to receive a Silver Award in the Chorus Review.  On Friday 11th December 2015 we performed a moving Christmas concert in Leiden’s Sint-Petruskerk, with works by composers including Benjamin Britten and John Taverner.

We are actively looking for 2 tenors, 1 baritone and 1 bass. Interested singers are welcome to get to know us by taking part in some rehearsals (Tuesday evenings from 8pm-10.15pm in the Lentelokale, Haagweg 4).  We expect new members to have choral experience, musicality and the ability to study music scores independently at home.  If after attending one or more rehearsals you would like to become a member, then you will need to take an audition.  The monthly member’s contribution is €31.

Rehearsals

The choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 8pm-10.15pm in the Lentelokale, Haagweg 4 (next door to Theater Ins Blau) in the heart of Leiden.  In addition, every year we hold one or two study days in or nearby Leiden, and once per year a rehearsal weekend away from Leiden.
